Today’s challenge is slightly different from what I thought UX Writers usually do. I thought this was majorly a copywriter’s work. Well, we learn every day. So, In today’s challenge, I wrote a title and meta description for a company that provides users with subscription lenses delivered every month. In this challenge, I considered some factors, including using words familiar to the user and telling them why they should sign up without sounding too salesy.

The challenge

The problem for today’s challenge is to write a title and meta description for a website that sells subscription contact lenses delivered to a user every 30 days and convince the elderly user doing the google search to buy it. The user is an elderly person, so it is best to consider using terms they are familiar with while going straight to the point, avoiding confusion. Here’s how I went about it.

My entry

Title

As this will come up on a Google search, the title must be attractive and go straight to the point. Here are the options I came up with:

Order your contact lenses at the best price on a monthly subscription- I’ve been so used to writing much shorter headings, so this is a little rusty.

Get your next contact lenses on a monthly subscription, best price only- I like the idea of this, but it’s a little too long, and since the user is trying to order, it is best to stick with the term the user has in mind, also for SEO purposes.

Order your contact lenses on a monthly subscription–Minteye- This looks great as it tells the user what exactly they will be getting while highlighting the company’s name. I also used pronouns for personalisation, making the user feel welcome to the page.

Meta description

In this section, it is best to highlight all the benefits the user will get by convincing them to buy. So, I thought it is best to include free delivery on the first 3 orders.

An easier way to get your contact lenses on a subscription. Use Minteye, and you’d get free delivery for your first three orders. All at $30 per month.- This was my first idea. It needs a little brushing up to make it sound more coherent and easy for the user.

Trying to get new contact lenses easily? Minteye provides contact lens subscriptions to get your order delivered every 30 days at only $30/month. Subscribe now and get free delivery on your first 3 orders. — This sounds much clearer than the first and has more details. However, it is too long and doesn’t fit the character limit.

Need new contact lenses? Minteye has contact lens subscriptions at $30/month, delivered every 30 days. Subscribe and get free shipping on your first 3 lenses.- This took much longer than I expected because of the character limit. However, I think I’ve gotten it done. This copy gives all of the information in clear language for the user.

My major takeaway for today’s copy is that you can sell without using too many SEO-ridden words. As a UX writer, the major aim is to ensure the user understands the message you’re trying to convey. That’s all for today. See you on Day 12!
